A Terrible Slave Life
Things and issues I want you to know is how wrong, and brutal slavery is. My name is Sally Marie Thomas, I am 44 years old, and I have been a slave for over 32 years. My owner Thomas, has hit me, choked me, slapped me, and a lot of other things that downed my confidence. I used to have a lot nicer owner until i tried to run away. I remember that night very well, I mean how can i forget the moment when i lost all feelings from my knee down.
It was a cold and very beautiful night, I snuck around my owner’s house, The sight of his house was amazing. The house had 3 rooms, polished tile flooring and a great birch color on the outside of the house. As I tip-toed into the cornfields I tripped over an old log and fell on the ground. The ground was very cold and had this really great smell like a nice fall day. I got up and ran toward freedom, or i thought I was at first until I ran into ran into my owner Our eyes met as he lifted up his gun and shot both of my knee caps. The pain was so bad, I just wanted to be killed at the moment because I didn't want to feel this pain anymore. As my owner just left me there, I laid there in my pain, My knees aching as if there was a ringing pain throughout my legs. Now i wear metal braces on my legs so I can’t run away anymore n so I can still work. My name is Sally Marie Thomas and I’m and ex-runaway slave.
It was a nice fall day and the leaves were falling everywhere. I hated the all because Thomas didn’t like the leaves on his property,so I had to rake them up, plus do the daily chores around the house. It was cold outside but I was still sweating. Drip by drip I raked the leaves until I felt completely dehydrated. I lost count of how long I was outside. I closed my eyes for awhile and i awoke to a very sharp sting along my back. I looked up and saw Thomas with his whip, “Get up nigger and finish up the damn leaves, or I’ll have to make sure your eyelids never shut!” I knew he wasn't going to actually cut off my eyelids but the thought still hurt. I think that's what he wanted. I got up and started to work again. Thomas walked away and quickly turned around and yelled, “I don't want to have to come out her again!” As he said this he whipped me with a much harder strike. The hit felt as if someone cut my back open, and slapped it with their hand. Dawn came up and I finally finished the leaves. I walked towards the house and a great gust of wind blew past me It had blown all of the leaves away and I couldn't’t rake them all back up before Thomas awoke.
